Depression
Depression is not just “feeling sad.” It can feel like moving through quicksand, struggling to find energy, or losing interest in things you used to care about. You may be showing up for work, family, and responsibilities—but feel numb, exhausted, or disconnected inside.
What depression can feel like
Common experiences include:
Low mood, emptiness, or feeling “flat”
Loss of interest in hobbies, relationships, or activities
Fatigue, low energy, or feeling slowed down
Changes in sleep (sleeping too little or too much)
Appetite changes or weight changes
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Feeling hopeless, guilty, or like a burden
Sometimes depression also comes with thoughts of not wanting to be here anymore. If that’s happening, it’s a sign you deserve more support—not a sign of weakness.
How treatment can help
Treatment usually includes:
Exploring biological, psychological, and situational contributors
Considering antidepressant medications when appropriate
Building structure, routine, and small daily wins
Supporting therapy goals and coping skills
Monitoring safety and creating a specific plan if symptoms worsen
Our focus is on helping you feel more like yourself again—not on turning you into someone different.
How BLT Tele Psychiatry supports depression
At BLT Tele Psychiatry:
We start with a detailed 60-minute intake to understand your story, not just your symptoms
We offer medication options and realistic expectations for how and when they may help
We collaborate with therapists, if you have one, or encourage starting therapy alongside medication when possible
Follow-ups are 30 minutes, giving enough space to talk about both mood and life changes
Evidence-based lifestyle prescribing (movement, sleep, nutrition, light exposure) plays a major role in restoring mood and motivation.
Because visits are virtual, you can receive care even on days when energy is low—as long as you’re in New York State during the appointment.
Depression can convince you that nothing will help. That’s a symptom, not the truth. Help is available, and you don’t have to navigate this alone.
