Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
BLT Psychiatry is an out-of-network, private-pay practice — which means you pay at the time of your appointment, and we provide a detailed receipt (called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
If your plan includes out-of-network mental health coverage, your insurer may reimburse you for a portion of each session — often 60–80% of the visit cost after your deductible. We can even submit claims electronically on your behalf to make the process easier.
Do you prescribe medication?
Yes. As a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. James Stanek can prescribe medication when appropriate after a full evaluation.
We offer comprehensive medication management and collaborate with patients to find the right treatment plan for their goals.
All prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy in New York State.
Do you provide therapy or medication management only?
We provide both. Some patients prefer ongoing therapy, others focus on medication management, and many choose a combination of the two.
Appointments are fully personalized — from structured medication check-ins to supportive talk therapy sessions designed to help you feel better, think clearer, and move forward confidently.
How does telepsychiatry work?
Telepsychiatry appointments take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You can connect from your home, office, or anywhere private in New York State.
All you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet space — no special software required.
What can I expect in my first appointment?
The initial evaluation (about 60 minutes) is a chance to talk through your background, current symptoms, and goals.
We’ll discuss possible diagnoses, treatment options, and next steps together. You’ll leave with a clear plan — whether that includes therapy, medication, or both.
What are your fees?
Initial intake: $400
Follow-up appointments: $200 (30 minutes)
All sessions are billed directly through our secure patient portal. Superbills are provided for potential insurance reimbursement.
Do I need to live in New York?
Yes. BLT Psychiatry can only see patients who reside in New York State and are physically located in New York during each appointment, as required by licensing laws.
What if I’m in crisis or need immediate help?
If you ever feel unsafe or in crisis, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
You can also call the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for free, 24/7 support from trained counselors.
